Interpreting Fairy Tales: Symbols, Language & Archetypal Patterns

12.5 Continuing Education Credits

On Demand: 5 sessions, 2.5 hours each

Take a journey into classic fairy tales through a Jungian perspective.

Join us this winter for a unique Jungian series that will immerse you in the power of fairy tales and storytelling. Fairy tales reveal everyday truths with an emphasis on symbolic language and archetypal patterns.

Fairy tales demonstrate the timeless, universal patterns of human nature through fantastical metaphors. At times dark or gruesome, people of all ages have enjoyed fairy tales for generations. Fairy tales present many universal problems of life, but also provide a sense of hope, showing possibilities for survival or overcoming challenges.

Can’t make it live? No problem all webinars will be recorded.

What will we cover?

In the first introductory seminar we will review Jung’s concepts of the collective unconscious and levels of the psyche. We will discuss why Jungians value and study fairy tales as a pathway to working with dreams.

Inspired and informed by the work of Marie Louise von Franz, Jung’s early assistant and life-long collaborator, we will work with one story per session to practice the careful translation of symbolic language in order to understand how it can be applied to everyday life.

The four additional sessions will focus on survival, finding strength, and good fortune in unexpected places. Volunteers will read the story aloud, followed by discussions attending to the symbols, patterns, and developments of the narrative.

After registration, the forthcoming meeting’s tale will be sent electronically to participants 2-4 days in advance. Participants will have the opportunity to read aloud at the beginning of each session. There will be time for discussion throughout our sessions. At the time of registration, participants may indicate their willingness to be a reader.
